What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture, often associated with Traditional Chinese Medicine and herbal Chinese medicine, is a healing technique designed to help bring the body’s energetic forces or “qi” (pronounced “chee”) back into balance. It involves inserting and manipulating fine, sterile needles into specific points on the body (commonly called acupuncture points) in order to stimulate the area and restore energy flow through bodily pathways called meridians. This promotes the body’s ability to begin healing itself.
Over its 3,000-year history, acupuncture has been used to treat many acute and chronic conditions. The placement of the needles and the duration of the treatment will depend on your individual health history. Practitioners will ask you a series of questions before any treatment begins in order to assess the right course of action.
