Hydrotherapy

What is hydrotherapy?

Hydrotherapy, also known as water therapy, involves using water to prevent, relieve or treat medical conditions or disease. It calls upon the body’s healing reaction to the unique properties of water, including the temperature, the slight pressure it exerts on the body, and the sensation of the water itself.

Nerves at the surface of the skin carry the sensation of the water deeper into the body to stimulate the immune system. Water therapy with warm water can improve circulation and digestion by promoting blood flow, and can help relax tight or strained muscles, often leading to an improved range of motion and pain relief. Cold water therapy can be used to stimulate and invigorate different parts of the body.

Water therapy can be practiced in many forms, including baths, saunas, packs and wraps.
